Commissioned by the Automobile Club of Mantova, this is the original plaque that we had the pleasure of creating in honor of Tazio Nuvolari.
Known as “The Flying Mantuan”, Tazio Nuvolari was one of the greatest drivers of all time, racing both cars and motorcycles. He accumulated 92 victories driving cars, and 62 victories racing motorcycles. His victories included European and Italian championships, and famous courses such as the Mille Miglia and Targa Florio.
The plaque features Tazio Nuvolari’s initials over a turtle, in reference to a golden turtle given to Nuvolari by the poet Gabriele D’Annunzio after winning the Targa Florio in 1932. D’Annunzio included the dedication, “to the fastest man, the slowest animal”.
